You Say You Want a Devolution?
Kurt Anderson rocks my brain with the observation — accurate, I suspect — that our culture has changed less in the last 20 years than just about any 20-year period before that.
After the first couple of paragraphs, I’d formed my opinion of a possible cause, which turns out to be the same as the author’s: technology and world events are changing so rapidly and dramatically that we have no need or desire or maybe even capacity to change our style.
I’ll be thinking about this for days, and quoting from it for weeks or months. I can tell.
